Gaylord Franklin Nix - 1860 & 1870 Censuses

I am researching Gaylord Franklin Nix, son of Larkin Nix and Celia Cooper. I believe he was born in Pickens County, South Carolina abt. 1831 and relocated to Cherokee County, Georgia before 1850. I have not been able to find him and his family in 1860 and 1870 Censuses. I believe he was in Georgia - possibly Cherokee County.

In 1880, he and his wife Margret Cathirine(?) were in Marion County, Alabama with five sons: Louis Mallard b. 06 May 1868 in Georgia [died of typhoid fever 01 Nov 1904 in Jones County, Texas; Osford [Oxford] T. b. Aug 1866 in Georgia; James Irvin b. 1870, Georgia; Jacob b. 03 Jul 1872 in Alabama, d. 03 Mar 1896, Anson, Jones County, Texas; and Demsy Ward Nix b. 1874 in Alabama.

By 1900, this family was living in Jones County, Texas and the head of household was listed as Franklin Nicks, instead of Gaylord Franklin Nix. The 1900 census shows that Margaret has given birth to 12 children and that only 4 are still living. I think my great grandmother, Mary Jane Nix, who married William Beasley ca. 1871 in Marion Co., Alabama, is possibly one of the 8 children who are already deceased by 1900. William and Mary Jane were in Marion County, Alabama in 1880 with three children: John Franklin b. 1872, Louis Lafayette b. 1875, and Margaret Eliza b. 1877. I think the Nix family and Beasley family probably traveled to Texas together around 1890 and that they were in Jones County by 1894, since the eldest Beasley son, John Franklin, was married there about that time.

Since Mary Jane Nix was born around 1857 in Georgia, I believe that the 1860 and 1870 listings of this family might help to prove that she was the daughter of Gaylord Franklin and Margaret Nix. I know that Mary Jane "Molly" was deceased before the 1900 census was enumerated in Jones County, Texas, but I do not know the date, or place, of her death. My mother told me that she may have died in a house fire.

Any information on any members of this family, or their location in 1860 and 1870, would be greatly appreciated.
