You could check deed index to see if could find him or his family selling property. Of course you can rent microfilm at Family History Center located in many LDS churches.
Also, some amazing local folks did books of Clarke tax rolls -- by District (and each book has map of the districts) --
(1) 1811-1820 (2) 1821-30 -- you could check those to see what land he rendered for taxes, and maybe widow or other family rendering that property later. That often gives you a pretty close timeframe for that person's death. If the description (acreage, waterway, adjoining own owner)is specific enough, you might be able to find a subsequent non-family owner for that land -- on tax rolls. LDS catalog shows they have the 1811-1820 one, but not the other (published more recently).
