Joel L. Nichols, Jr, / Mary F. Carnes

Posted by Kenny Shackleford <KennyShackleford@aol.com> on Tue, 12 Dec 2000

Surname: Nichols, Carnes, Tyner, Wellmaker

Joel Lafayette Nichols, Jr., son of Joel Sr. and Susan Wellmaker was born 12-06-1853 in Wilkes County, Georgia. He was moved to Alabama when his parents migrated to Pike Co, the part that is now Crenshaw County, in the last half of the 1850s. They settled in the Mt. Ida Community on the Patsalagia River. Joel Jr., married Mary Francis Carnes 12-23-1875, in Crenshaw Co. She was the daughter of Thomas Carnes and Martha Tyner, born 02-28-1863 in Clay Co., GA.
Joel operated a farm in the Rocky Hill Community. He died March 12, 1918, in Brantley, AL. Mary died 02-06-1935 in Brantley. They are buried at the Mt. Ida Church Cemetery. Joel was a mason. He and Mary had 9 children;
Abbie Tula, Claudius Cleo, Oliver Newton, Alice Eunice, Susan Auguster, Clera Clara, Henry Peavy, Birdie Aldine, and Newton Gresham Nichols.
As you can see, I have a good bit on statistics for Joel and his family. What I would like is some information on Joel and Mary's private life, old photos, papers, etc., so that I can complete a Bio on this family. Can anyone supply me with any information or whatever via email?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
