I NEED HELP!! I'm actually looking for the ANCESTORS of my great-grandfather, James Andrew Moore. Here's my problem. The farthest I can go back is my > great-grandfather, James Andrew > Moore (17OCT1840 - 06NOV1913). He shows up for the > first time, age 19, > on the 1860 Fannin Co, GA census, living in the > household of James > Parks. His occupation is listed as miller. It shows > he was born in > Georgia, and later census indicate that his parents > were born here as > well. Except for service in the Civil War, he > apparently lived in Fannin > county the rest of his life. Oddly, five of his six > children ended up in > Hazlehurst, Jeff Davis (formally Appling and > Coffee) County, which is > in south Georgia. (Fannin is in north Georgia, on > the North > Carolina/Tennessee line.) I have no idea why. A > Girtman (That is the > maiden name of a great-grandmother) did marry a > Sarah A. Moore, who was > born 18 JUL 1848. I'm GUESSING that there MIGHT be a > connection with her > and James Andrew (brother? Cousin?), but again, I > can't find one. So > far, that's all I have. > > > My grandfather, John Avery Moore, married a daughter > of James Hendrick > Latimer, His sister Callie married a Latimer son. > James hendrick's wife > was a Girtman, so I'm connected there as well. (The > Girtmans, and I > believe the Latimers are mentioned in "Pioneers of > Wiregrass Georgia" I > also have some Tillmans in there.) > > By the way, the five Moore kids who ended up in south > Georgia were (in > order of age) Henry Gaines, Thomas Reneau, John > Avery, Oscar Perry, and > Callie Jane. > > Does any of this ring a bell??
