Faye, thank you for your excellent reply to my query. I have printed your reply, for future reference. Since posting my original query, I have learned that William Hardin witnessed a deed in Feb 1818, in Madison Co., AL when his sister Nancy, and her husband Joseph Rutledge, purchased land. That part of Madison Co. became Limestone Co. later that same year, and the deed is filed in Limestone Co. Through the National Archives, I have also learned that this same William Hardin lived until around 1855-56. On 11 Nov 1850, he filed, as a resident of Marion County, GA, for Bounty Land based on his service in the Creek Indian War of 1813 in Capt John Irwin's company. He received land, which he "disposed of legally". On 9 May 1855, he filed, as a resident of Washington County, GA, for Bounty land based on his service in the War of 1812 with Great Britain, in Capt John Irwin's company. He was issued a certificate authorizing 80 acres of bounty land on 20 Mar 1856, but the certificate was cancelled on 22 Aug 1856 because he had died before it was issued. (Thus, he died sometime between May 1855 and March 1856.) Although I have not yet found proof that, after his first wife (Rebecca Allbritton) died in Columbia County, GA, he may have latter been married to Sarah Hardin (my ggg-grandmother) in Limestone County, AL. This is still unproven, but much circumstantial evidence suggests that this William Hardin (brother to Nancy Hardin Rutledge) MAY have been Sarah Hardin's husband. Thanks again for your response!
