William Moore, Sr. - Columbia Co., GA

I am seeking information on William Moore of Columbia County, GA. William is my gggg grandfather. His daughter, Elizabeth E. Moore, married John "Jack" Whitaker on July 27, 1852 in Richmond County, GA. I descend from her line.

According to the 1870 Federal Mortality Schedule for Columbia Co., William died in 1869 from "hydrothorax." If the information is correct, he would have been born around 1781 in South Carolina. The 1850 Federal Census for Columbia Co., suggests that he was born around 1790, and the 1860 Census suggests that he was born around 1774. There was a Samuel Moore living nearby on the 1850 and 1860 Census, also born in South Carolina around 1796. I believe this may have been a brother of William.

William had several children...Catherine, John, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Samuel, James, William Jr., Peter, Martha M., "Biddy" Minerva, and Permelia. Benjamin and Samuel were Confederate Veterans and William was killed in Manassas Gap, VA in 1863. In his Will, probated in Columbia Co. in 1869, William Sr. names all of his children, except William Jr. (deceased), Peter, and James.

I am seeking information on the parents of William Moore, as well as his wife. His wife is listed as Mary in places and as Polly in others...probably a nickname. According to census records, she was born in GA. I'd love to know what part of South Carolina William came from and who his parents were. Can anyone help me?
