Those who may be planning a trip to Newnan to do research in the probate records (wills, estates, marriages) October, November and December of '06 would be advised to wait until a later date. The courthouse is being remodeled and the probate office has been moved to a temporary room. Access to the vault where all the records are stored has been suspended, possibly until after the first of the year (2007).
The Superior Court offices (deeds and land records) are still accessible and are in a different building. The Coweta Genealogy Society's research facility in Grantville also is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and 1st and 2nd Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
If you need to do probate research at the courthouse, it would be a good idea to call first -- 770-254-2640.
