Thomas W. SAXON--b. ca 1835, d. 1891-1900

I have been researching the SAXON families in the Southeast for some forty years now, attempting to identify the various branches of this family and how they relate to one another.

One of the "unidentified" branches in my files is the family of Thomas W. SAXON (born ca 1835 in GA), who married first in Coweta Co. in 1852 (to Mary WRIGHT, who died after 1880), and (I believe) secondly in Coweta Co. in 1889 to Sarah Frances "Fannie" MERIWETHER (although the published marriage records that I've seen list the second marriage above as that as "F. W." SAXON). He and his family seem to have lived in the city of Newnan, as best I can tell from the censes records in which I've found them. Thomas W. SAXON seems to have died between 1891 and 1900, most likely in Coweta Co.

Assuming that both marriages above were indeed the same man, his children include the following, based on various Coweta Co. census records:

Henry F. SAXON (born ca 1854) m. 1874 to "E. C. JACKSON"

I suspect she is the widowed "Lizzie SAXON" in the 1900 census, with children:

       Robert L. (b. Feb 1877)
("soldier in Philippines")
       Sam        (b. Dec 1882)
       Charlie (b. Oct 1887)
       Driskill (b. May 1890)
       Julia (b. June 1892)

Mary E. SAXON (born ca 1857)

Martha SAXON (born ca 1859) m. 1874 to W. H. LITTLE (widowed by 1880)

(by second wife, who also appears as a widow in the 1900 census, with her parents):

Thomas Wyatt SAXON (born 3 Jan 1892, died 21 Mar 1917; bur. Emory Chapel Cem.)

I am hoping that someone might check any published Coweta Co. cemetery records to which you might have access, for the tombstone inscriptions and grave locations of any of the above-mentioned SAXON family members.

I am especially interested in anything that can confirm that Thomas W. SAXON married both Mary WRIGHT and Fannie MERIWETHER!

Gratefully,
Ron Head (Montgomery, AL)
