John Washington Dent was born Mar. 2, 1817 in Lexington Dist,South Carolina. The only son of William H. Dent and his wife Catherine Zeigler Dent.
John married Elizabeth Hoy Sept. 1840. She was born 1819 is the daughter of James Hoy and his first wife (name unknown).
John & Elizabeth had the following children:
William James Dent 1841
Mary Elizabeth Dent 1843
Wesley Hoy Dent 1849
Sidney Washington Dent 1851
Edgar Eugene Dent 1853
Josephine Catherine Dent 1855
Lizzie Camilla Dent 1857
Elizabeth Hoy Dent died of Typhoid Pneumonia on Mar. 14,1859. John remarried to Jane Jenkins in Crawford County on Nov. 15, 1859. No children were born to Jane.
John & Elizabeth are buried at Salem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Crawford County. Jane Jenkins Dent is also buried there and her marker bears the notice "second wife of John W. Dent".
I am descended from their third son, Sidney Washington Dent and his wife Emma Jane Hicks (daughter of Leroy Ward Hicks and Epsey P. McCrary Hicks).
