It's been a couple years and I'm back pursuing data about my Dickson line. I have still never proven, to my satisfaction, that my ancestor John Dickson was the son of Michael Dickson, Jr.
I might accept everyone else's research except for one important detail. Living in the same general area as Thomas, Josiah, John and Benjamin (who are all believed to be sons of Michael Dickson, Jr.), in Bibb and Crawford Counties, was a Robert Dickson. Robert was plenty old enough to be the father of all four of the others. They apparently lived very close together, even though some were seperated by the county line. They all appear to have attended, if not founded, what is now known as the Dixon United Methodist Church and Cemetery. Thomas, Benjamin and Josiah are all buried there, and so is this Robert, whose gravestone states he died in 1836. Amazingly, I cannot find one researcher who has any information on him! His gravestone states he was born in 1760 and that he was in the NC Militia in the Revolutionary war. Land records show he was granted his land in Georgia (about the same time as the heirs of Michael Dickson Jr.). Robert also signed as a witness the will of Thomas Dickson. Who was he? I found him listed in the Bibb Co. census in 1830, near John and Josiah, but before that in the 1820 Wilkinson Co. census, along with a Micajah Dickson. Micajah was found in Crawford Co. in 1830. Who was this Micajah Dickson? Robert may have been his father too. If you or anyone has any clues about this Robert I'd love to hear it.
