The 1860 Census should have Artimissa E. Elsey. Probably called Elizabeth based on later census records. The Elzey family appears in the 1850 Census for Lumpkin County (one of Dawson County’s predecessors) in the Robinson District: Elzey, Thomas, 34, $80 Real Estate, Cannot Read Arta, 26, Wife Thomas, 6, Male Nancy, 3, Female Babe, 1, Male (Probably Bisha—see 1870 census transcription) Blackburn, Nancy, 45, Female (relative? Mother-in-law?) In the 1870 Census, the family is in the Purdy’s District in Dawson County (all born in Georgia): Elzey, Thomas, 56 (ca. 1814), Farmer, $100 Real Property, $150 Personal Property Elizabeth, 45 (ca. 1815), Keeping House, Cannot write Nancy A., 22 (ca. 1848), Farm Laborer Bisha W., 21 (ca. 1849), Farm Laborer Mary (Polly) R., 18 (ca. 1852), Farm Laborer, Cannot write Eliza J., 12 (ca. 1858), Idiotic Louisa, 2 (ca. 1868) In the 1880 Census, the family is listed in three households in the Purdy’s District of Dawson County: Elzey, Thomas, 55 (probably should be 65) Matilda, 40 Marshal, 9, grandson Elzey, Polly, 24, Keeping House Louisa, 12, daughter (this is probably sister) Ellen, 6, daughter Johnson, 4, daughter Unnamed, 1, son Elzey, Bisha, 36, Farmer Mary, 16, Wife, Keeping House Dawson County Marriages: Thomas Elzey to Sarah Chuml(e)y 11-6-1892 Enock (Enoch) Elzey to Minna Kelley 7-21-1900 This is all that I have been able to locate on the Elsey/Elzey family in our library.
