Land Original Ownership - 20th Dist. Lot 214, 250, 254, 255

  of 353

I have found the deed record of sale of Lots 250, 254, 255, and also of Lot 214, recorded in Book K pages 500 & 501 in Decatur Co Superior Court, both sales on 2/18/1856 and both recorded on 9/4/1856; grantor was Jacob Clinard and grantee was (the estate of) Abel Knight. What strikes me as odd though, is that I can't find any earlier record of when and from whom Jacob Clinard acquired these parcels of land, all located in Decatur County, but originally Early. I've visited both courthouses and searched diligently through the records to no avail. Obviously, you have to own land first before you can sell it! Is there anybody on this list who is good at understanding and tracing back these land lots to the original owners? I would guess that the land was awarded to someone in the 1820 GA Land Lottery, but it wasn't to Jacob Clinard as far as I could discover. Any help appreciated.
