Hi Nadja, I tried emailing a few days ago but it bounced back. I located some information with a basic google search on the WANSLEY/WANSLEE of Elbert County. Johnson WANSLEY born 13 Feb 1813 died in Elbert County in Feb 1897. His parents were a Rueben T. WANSLEY, Sr. (d. 1835 Elbert Co.) and Elizabeth Cunningham. Since Johnson died long after emancipation (1865) you might want to first check the 1860 Elbert County Slave Schedule and see if his father Rueben was a slave holder. If you find he was (it will show slaves (listed by color, sex and age only) then you would want to contact the Elbert County Probabte Court and request his estate file which includes estate inventory (slaves named and listed by value). In these files will often be found a division of slaves...a document showing who gets what slaves, ect. ect. Also check deed records (transfer of property)...these (and other records..including Church) are microfilmed and available thru the Family History Library (LDS Church) and can be ordered and viewed in the library for 30 days. Here is the link to the FHL Catalog for Elbert County records.... Deeds are found under Elbert County > Land and Property Good luck!
