I'm looking for information on a Williams family from the late 1800s in Emanuel Co whose son (James?) apparently got into a fight, thought he had killed a man, and fled to Florida with his girlfriend or wife, Martha Rachel Flanders, daughter of Alexander Chestnut Flanders. In Florida, he changed his name to Hillman (he was called James Marion Hillman there) and his granddaughter was my husband's mother. From the family stories, Williams (Hillman) later discovered the man didn't die and apparently things were at least ok enough that Martha was able to go back home to visit her daddy, I think taking her family with her. I'd like to find out just which Williams family he was from. I've been told his father died in the Civil War when he was just a boy. Any ideas?
