Kurt, There are many Burkhalters (Burkhalter) in Evans County. I went to school with several. You might want to go to www.switchboard.com and search Claxton, GA for the name Burkhalter. Antioch Church is close to Glisson's Pond which is near the border of Fort Stewart military reservation and Evans County. My Great Grandfather is buried there. As you may know, Evans County did not exist before 1914. It was created from part of Tattnall and Bullock Counties. Anyone doing research that goes back before 1915 should check both counties, Tattnall and Bulloch. I know a lady who works in the Evans County Court House Annex. She was a Burkhalter before she married. Her first name is Gail. You might give the tax office there a call and ask about her. Good luck.
