I have been doggedly researching a SMITH line that brickwalled me for years. The earliest known ancestor, William K. SMITH, appears in Cherokee co. AL along with his wife Sarah Nancy EASTERLAND and their children. They originally came from GA but for a long time I could find no clue as to what county. Well, today I found their son James' Civil War pension record, and right there it says he was born in Floyd co. GA in 1840! His parents probably moved to AL c. 1846, as their three-year-old daughter Nancy was born in GA in the 1850 AL census.
