The parents of Margaret Bray were Andrew Washington Bray and Rebecca Elizabeth Bray.
Andrew was born in Cobb County, GA on April 11, 1837. He died Nov. 27, 1886 in Goron Co. GA and is buried in Sugar Valley Baptist Cemetery in Gordon County.

In the 1850 Cobb County Ga Census, Andrew W. Bray was listed as the son of Mary and Stognor Bray. Stognor was born in Tennessee about 1817/1820. In 1850, Andrew was 12 years old.

In the 1860 census of St Clair County Alabama, Andrew [age 22] and his wife Rebecca [age 22] have a daughter Margaret M who is two years old. An un-named infant is also listed as being 6 months old.

In 1860, Andrew & Rebecca Bray are listed living beside Stognor and Nancy Bray and their children.

Andrew enlisted in the Civil War in St. Clair County Alabama. He was in the ALA 18th and Ala 58th.

In the 1870 Floyd County , Georgia census, Andrew W. [age 40] -b-place GA; and his unaging wife Rebecca [age 27] are listed with the following children:
1. Margaret W. age 12 -
2. Nancy C, age 10
3. Mary E. -age 5,
4. William J. -age 3

In 1880, Andrew Bray is listed in Gordon County, GA.

Andrew Bray age 40, born GA.
Rebecca E. age 41, born GA
Nancy k - age 18, b-place Ala
Martha L. age 7, Born in GA
Sarah S.E. -age 5, and Jesse W. age 2.

Margaret Bray was listed as a boarder in the home of a Mr/Mrs Carter.

After Andrew Washington's death in 1886, Margaret's husband [James M. Smith] sighned papers so that Rebecca Bray could recieve her Civil War widow's penson.

Margaret Bray was a long time member of HillCity Baptist Church in Hill City, GA [Gordon County]. She is buried beside James M. Smith. Her tomstone reads: "Margarette Smith". Rebecca and her children also became members at Hill City after Andrew W. Brays death in 1886.

Margaret's mother could not read or write. This would explain why the ages jump around like they do.
