Mark, I believe that the John A Hardin/en listed on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Gordon Co., GA is the same person as the John A Hardin in TX in 1900. The reason I think so is that on the Ga censuses they are listed near both his Hardin/en relatives and her Roberts parents. The children's names match up from 1870 to 1880. Then in 1900, some of the children's names match those in 1880 in GA. Here are some notes which I have on the John A Hardin/en and family. <<<<<<<begin copy from notes>>>>>>>> Census: 1860 GA Gordon Co pg 398; Cossawattee; P.O. This John A is probably her son.] [In her book, Mona Wamick wrote in the Quinn section, pg38B: "Mary M Roberts, b c1840 GA m her cousin, John A Hardin. In 1860 they lived next door to her father, had 1 son."] [Note: John & Mary are listed next after Wiley Roberts & family-F1027. Wiley's mother, Margaret was a sister to Mary Quinn Hardin.] Census: 1870 GA Gordon Co pg 229A PO Calhoun 1 Aug Line 37 H831/F786 Harden, John A 37 farmer $1800/400 b NC Mary M 30 keeping house b GA Wylie 3 b GA Dores J 8/12 b GA - Sept [next pg 229B] Line 1 Harden, Eleg A 27 works on farm b NC 1880 GA Gordon Co pg 140C 1063rd District G M 9th or 10th June Line 7 H126/F126 Hardin, John A 47 farmer b NC/NC/NC wife Mary M 40 b GA/NC/NC son Willie L 13 farm laborer attended school b GA/NC/GA dau Dora J 10 at home attended school b GA/NC/NC son Joseph C ?(8) attended school b GA/NC/NC son Walter J 4 b GA/NC/NC son John 2 b GA/NC/NC 1900 TX Comanche Co pg 186B [ED031-16B] Justice Precinct 4, 25th June Line 71 H278/F278 Hardin, John 67 m41y b Apr 1833 NC/NC/NC wife Mary M 60 13ch/?(9)liv b Mar 1840 GA/NC/NC son Wiley L 33 b Feb 1867 GA/NC/GA son Joseph P 27 b July 1872 GA/NC/GA boarder Mahan, Mary 10 b Dec 1889 TX/un/un boarder McDonald, Thomas 17 b Nov 1882 TX/TX/MA farm laborer <<<<<<<<end copy from notes>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you need the census images for 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 for John A and family and will contact me privately, I can email them to you. I believe that John A is the son of Mary Quinn and John Hardin/en. I am not sure what happened to John A's son, listed in 1860 as "Martin 2/12" but the children in the 1870 and 1880 censuses match and they were still living near the Roberts and the other Hardin/ens. [Mary M's father, Wiley Roberts' grandfather was named Martin.] According to Mona Wamick, "Wiley Roberts' daughter, Mary M Roberts married her cousin, John A Hardin." "Mary M 9 b GA" is listed on the 1850 Murray Co., GA census with Wiley & Nancy E Roberts. But since her ages listed in 1860, 1870, 1800 and 1900 indicate that she was probably born in 1839 or 1840, I believe that she is the female "under 5" listed with Wiley in 1840. Just before them is listed Nancy's brother, Hugh 27 & family. In addition to 1850 Murray Co and 1860 Gordon Co, Wiley and Nancy are also on other GA censuses: 1840 Cass [now Bartow] Co., GA, 1870 and 1880 in Gordon Co. near the Hardin/ens. Since John and Mary named one of their sons Wiley, he must have been named after her father, Wiley Roberts. Mary's mother was Nancy E Quinn. Her paternal grandmother, Wiley's mother, was Margaret Quinn. I have names and information on several generations for Mary M, daughter of Wiley R Roberts and wife Nancy E Quinn. I have information on Wiley Roberts line, too. I can send a pedigree chart if you will contact me privately. As for the 1860 occupation of John A, it looks like "Teacher Com School" on the image. The "Com" could be for Community or common. Schools were sometimes called common schools. I hope to hear from you soon. Melba Clark Notify Administrator about this message?
