Hi Joan:

I have been trying to figure out a mystery. Who were the parents of Sylvester Singletary (b. 1881 Thomas Co GA - d. ?) m. 1897 Thomas Co GA to Lila Simms (b. 1883 GA - d. ?); they had the following known children Franklin 1898 (died young, I think); Roy 1901-1953 Tampa, FL; Jeff b. 1905; Bertha b. 1909 (all in 1910 US Census, Cairo, Grady, GA).

In 1900, Sylvester and Lila are a few visits away from John R. Singletary b. Aug 1859 GA and married to Eliza D. b. Sep 1872 GA (married 6 years; 4 children, 3 living): David H. b. Oct 1894 GA, Milton K. Nov 1895 GA, Gussie M. Nov 1999. Between the two families are 2 families named Brinson and one named Glover, all black. The Singletary's are listed as white.

Is there anything local that might show that Sylvester was a son of John R. from an earlier marriage than the one shown in 1900? Online genealogies do not show this particular Sylvester Singletary. He is listed on his son, Roy's, death certificate with his wife, Lila Simms. Additionally, we found a Georgia Marriage Record for Sylvester and Lila. But to whom do they belong?

Any suggestions will be a help. Thank you. Kathie
