"Harris History", an 8 page summary by Lanny Cauthen, 405 Brenda Lane, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214, Dec. 30, 1978. The following is paragrap h VI. of page 7:

Wilmot Egerton Harris-born on Nov. 13, 1769 probably in Warren Co., North Carolina. He was married to Coley Morris in North Carolina on Jan. 1, 1799. He received a land grant in Greene Co., Georgia in 1818 and probably died there after 1830. More work needs to be done to determine when and where he died. In 1800 he is in the Warren Co., N.C. census and is listed with 1 child (a girl). The name "Wilmot" appears to have come from his mother's side of the family, as his mother had a brother named Wilmot.

1. James Wilmot Harris-married a Legrand. One of their children was named Mary, and she married David Pope, and they were the parents of Lenton Pope who married Sudie Cauthen, whose mother was Sarah Harris, daughter of Benjamin Harris and Susan Pyron.
2. Nancy Jane "Nannie" Harris-married a Mr. Vernon.
3. Thomas Harris-came to Haralson Co., Ga. as did his brother James.
4. Richard Harris-lived around Taylorsville, Ga.
5. Charles Harris
6. Wesley Harris

My gg grandmother was Mary Catherine Harris ( 9/19/19 -1910). She married John Robert Eidson in Greene County and raised her numerous children in Oglethorpe County. I have never been able to find which of the Harris families that she was connected to though I must admit that I have worked on other lines more energetically. I have a picture of her standing in front of her house which must have been taken in the late 90s or early in the next century. My neighbor has access to the census and I asked him to look up the many Harris people in Green County and see who had a child who would be about eleven in 1830. The only one that seems to fit that would be the Wilmont Harris family Would you know if there was a child named Mary Catherine?
Any leads would be appreciated.
