I'm hoping someone out there might be able to help me with information on my unknown Elizabeth; born abt 1855 in Georgia; who was married to William Hillsboro Jones of Greene Co Georgia. William H Jones was born 1848 and the son of Sterling Washington Jones and Martha Ann Swinney. He married a woman named Elizabeth about 1874. They had 1 son born 1 January 1875 named Elmo (Elmore) Murray Jones. On the 1880 census, the transcription of the index lists them incorrectly as having last name JENTS. But it's just a misread of the handwriting on the census. They were living in Greene Co., Fosters, dist 38, household #229 in 1880; just two houses away from his widowed mother Martha Jones and brother Charles T Jones.
I have not found any marriage record in Greene Co or surrounding counties that is quite the right fit. I have found a couple that seemed like they might be the right William H Jones and Elizabeth, but have ruled them out after more research. My grandmother suspected that this Elizabeth may have had the last name MAY, or MAYS. But I have not found an exact match for an Elizabeth May or Mays born 1855 Georgia. Per the 1880 census, Elizbeth's parents were both born in South Carolina. This could be why I can't find the right marriage record - they may have married in South Carolina.
Is there anyone out there who knows who this Elizabeth is?
