Hi, I am not related and haven't researched this family, but just looking at a few census records, I would say that Permelia's parents were probably William and Mary Kemp. In 1850, Joshua and Permelia were living in DeKalb Co., GA. Also in DeKalb Co., in the Stone Mountain Dist. (on p. 97) was the household of William Kemp, age 57, wife Mary, 51, and their children: Martha, 24; Elizabeth, 20; Marion (son), 13; and Ellsberry (son), 11. Now in the 1880 census, Permelia said that her parents were born in South Carolina, and both William and Mary were. Mary would have been just old enough to have a daughter born in 1816. The strongest evidence that William and Mary may have been Permelia's parents is just the repetition of names. Joshua and Permelia had children named William, Mary, Martha, and Elsberry, and that last one wasn't exactly common. It would be helpful to trace this family back from 1840 to 1820 to see first, if William and Mary were married by 1820, and second, what ages their children were, that is, if they had a daughter old enough to be Permelia. Maybe you've already done this. Sorry if I have no concrete answers, just an opinion. By the way, I have been to Bethesda Methodist Church Cemetery in Gwinnett County, and it's a nice place, not too large that you can't find a grave. You can see a few pictures of it on FindaGrave.com here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GSsr=41&GSmid=46975245&CRid=2167031&pt=Bethesda%20United%20Methodist%20Church%20Cemetery& Sue Ellen Fealko Notify Administrator about this message?
