Hi,
I am trying to locate my GGG-grandpa Lorenzo Dow OWEN born abt 1813 in SC and died 1852-1859. He married Caroline [CRUMLEY] 1844 in Gwinnett Co GA.
My only legal record of him is the 1850 Gwinnett Co GA census.

1850 Gwinnett Co Ga/36th Subdiv/HH 680-680/pg 175b
OWEN, L D /HH/wm age 37 SC wagon maker
Owen, Caroline /wf age 28 Ga
Owen, William W /wm age 05 Ga "Wiley"
OWEN, Benjamin F /wm age 03 Ga (my 2g-g/f)
Owen, Margaret E /wf age 01 Ga

We know that he owned a gold mine in what is now Dahlonega, GA (or very close to there) where gold was discovered in 1828. From 1828 to 1832 that place was in Habersham County, GA but became Lumpkin County in 1832.
I don't know when he owned the gold mine but he is listed as an early Dahlonega "businessman".

By 1860, GGG-grandma Caroline was a widow with 5 chn:

1860 Gwinnett Co Ga/Lawrenceville PO/HH 407-407/pg 617
(30 Jun 1860)
OWEN, Caroline /HH/wf age 38 SC
Owen, William /wm age 14 GA
OWEN, Benjamin /wm age 12 GA
Owen, Margarett /wf age 10 GA
Owen, John /wm age 07 GA
Owen, George /wm age 05 GA

1870 Gwinnett Co Ga/Lawrenceville PO/HH 1621-1629/pg 112a
(24 Sep 1870)
OWEN, Caroline /HH/wf age 48 SC
Owen, John /wm age 19 Ga + farm laborer
Owen, George /wm age 18 Ga + farm laborer

Their son Benjamin married Nancy Adoline [DOSS] (my GG-g/p); their son John married Salita Capitoria [WHITBY]; and their son William Wiley 1m Lucy [unk] and 2m Arathusa [HENRY]; their daughter Margaret married George ROBERTS.

I have no clue who the parents or siblings of my GGG-grandpa are or if they even went to GA.....
Lorenzo Dow was a well-known Methodist preacher and tens of thousands of people named their sons after him in the 1800's so his name is no clue.....sigh.

I know I have kinfolk out there --- where are you ???

OWEN, CRUMLEY, DOSS, WHITBY, HENRY, ROBERTS
