Swain County Herald, (Swain Co. NC) Thursday, November 28, 1889:

"GEORGIA---A collision occurred at Lula [Hall Co. GA], on the Richmond and Danville Railroad Monday night, the north-bound passenger train running into the rear of a freight train. Fireman Ford of the passenger engine was instantly killed and Engineer, James Bell was so badly crushed that he will probably die."
