William Griggs, Sr. of Hancock County, Ga.

Wm. Griggs, Sr. of Hancock County, Ga. was not married to a "Miss Gardner/Gardnier." This information was published many yrs. ago & has been proven false. This came from older DAR records. This is not the only place this information was published. (So beware if you are researching this particular Griggs line). Thankfully they now question the validity of these older DAR records & if you join with an ancestor that goes back on these older DAR records you really have to prove your line. It has been proven that Wm. Griggs, Sr. married Leonard Wallas/Wallis/Wallace. John Gardner Griggs who married Rebecca Pritchett made a Deed of Conveyance to William Griggs before he moved to Putnam County in 1813. He sold two tracts of land to Wm. Griggs. William's LWT mentions him buying land from his brother John which he was leaving to his son. I also descend from William Griggs, Sr. My new email address: spstrick@otelco.net if anyone has questions or wants to know more.
