Sharon,I am descended from the Butts family in Hancock. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about any slaves they might have had, but I do have the names and ages of the Butts heads of household in Hancock 1860 who might have owned slaves.
They were: Jesse G. Butts, age 68 "Planter", probably
the richest of the group
James I. Butts, age 60
Arthur Irwin Butts, age 31 "Planter"
Irwin I. Butts 60, "Planter"
Thomas C. Butts 62 "Farmer"
E.A. Butts 42 "Planter"
William S.Butts, 26 "Planter"
Irwin W. Butts, 25, "Planter"
Thomas C. Butts, 73 Farm Labor
These are all my kin, but none is my ancestor. That would be Frederick Butts of neighboring Baldwin Co, also a farmer. I never copied the number of slaves and their ages because when I was in the Archives I just wanted the names of tye families listed. A mistake. I wish I had been more careful. Now I am limited to the Internet
The Butts damilies all go back to Southampton Co in tidewater VA and migrated to GA about 1800
Good luck with yoour search. Fay
