There is a Gabriel Smith listed in the 1840 Carroll County census as being between 70 and 80 years old. This would be consistent with being 16 years old during the Revolutionary War. He is living in the 754th Georgia Militia District next to his son Gabriel Smith junior.

I do not see the elder Gabriel Smith in the 1850 census but his son is in the 1850 Carroll County census so perhaps the elder Gabriel Smith passed on between 1840 and 1850.

I do not see him in the cemetery book but that would not be unusual because at that time it was rare for people to have tombstones.
