Hi, My name is Michael B. Jones. My mother Ida Louise Gulley and my Aunt Willie Lou Gulley (both deceased) told me years ago that I was a grandson (not sure if it was a great, or great, great) of the honorable Frederick C. Stephenson of Hartwell, GA. We travelled to Hartwell one time and visited Mr. Stephenson’s former home. While there my Mother and Aunt were given a portrait of Mr. Stephenson showing him in a sitting position with a crutch across his lap. They were told that Mr. Stephenson was very upset about the crutch and would not allow the portrait to be displayed in the courthouse. This portrait has since disappeared. I returned to Hartwell in the 1980’s and visited to plaque in front of the courthouse and Mr. Stephenson’s grave site. I also went to the library and found the article about Mr. Stephenson and a picture of the portrait in the book “History of Hart County” in the library. I also went to the courthouse looking for more information and was told the courthouse had burned down some years ago and all the records were lost. I found an article on the Internet when I was searching “Frederick Stephenson”. I would sure like to obtain further information about him and how the descendants that followed were tied to my Mother’s family. Thank you in advance for any information you may provide.
