I had Wilson (and Willson) ancestors in the above mentioned counties. In addition, some of the given names (James, Martha, William, Sarah J., Lucinda) are regularly recurring names in my lineage. There seems, however, to be no direct proveable link from all of my Wilsons (and Willsons) to yours! Can you provide me with some dates that your Wilsons were in Heard and Carroll counties?
A couple of years ago I received from a fellow genealogist a transcript of a letter written by my GG Grandfather, Rev. James Willson of Troup County, Georgia. The letter was written to one of the Reverend's grown children, and details the whereabouts of some of his other children. A portion of the letter follows:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>beginning of letter<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Troup County (Georgia) October 27th 1861

"...I will give you an account of the family as far as I know. Orry [Orea Willson-Coffman] is in Shelby [County, Alabama], not satisfied and making but little. I learn three sons in the army Leroy [Leroy Wilson Coffman], Crocket [David Crockett Coffman], & Green [John Green Coffman] . Elvery [Elvira Willson-Dodson] is in Coosa [County, Alabama] at Fish Pond. All the children married but Elizabeth. Joel [Joel W. Dodson] keeping school good --school made another for next year. Caroline [Susan Caroline Willson] is now with me. Sophia [Julian Sophia Willson] is I know not where. B.F. Willson [Benjamin Franklin Willson] is in heard [Heard County, Georgia] with his uncle Atchison [James A. Atchisson, husband of Lucinda Willson, sister of Rev. James Willson] doing well enough for the times. I don't think he diseres a great deal of wealth. (He) has eight children. William C. [William C. Willson, son of James and his second wife, Sarah Cameron] is with me but works to himself. (He) has three children. I don't think he will ever set the world on fire, but will make out to live. John D. [John Dodson Willson] still in Texas [Titus County, Texas]. He has made a fine crop except cotton. (He) has four children. James B. [James Blanton Willson] has just moved to Arkansas (and) has two children. He will do well with blessings of God upon him, without which none will do well but for a time. Lucinda J. [Willson] Formby has two children (and is) doing tolerable well. Your Aunt Susan [Willson] Hale [sister of Rev. James Willson] lives in Griffen. She is not satisfied. (She) has one son in the army, (White). Thomas J. has gone to Pikes peak Kansas. We are all well people -- generally well --all alive for the war crop."

Judy, do any of these names fit in with your records? Please take a look at your records and let me know when you have a chance.

Sincerely,

Alvin L. Wilson
