In 1804, John Berry died, leaving a widow (Martha) and 5 children: Joshua (abt 6), Robert (abt 5), Elizabeth (abt 3), Mary (abt 1) and an infant, William. The estate was not sufficient for their support, so Martha remarried (to a man named Green) and the children were "bound out" to various people until they reached their majority (age 21 for the boys and 18 for the girls): Georgia Intestate Records by Jeannette Holland Austin c. 1986 Genealogical Pub. Co., Inc. Baltimore, MD 10/28/1805 Bound over to William Cates along with William until they reach 21 years of age. William, orphan of John, decd., age 2 the 16th of June last. 10/28/1805 Robert Berry, orphan of John, decd., age 7 on next Feb. 10, is bound to Joshua Betts. 3/2/1812 Robert (to age 21), Mary & Elizabeth (to age 18) bound to Stephen Brooks. Index, Court of Ordinary Minutes, 1796 - 1814 Jackson Co., GA BERRY, JOHN (Dcsd), Estate, Recorded May 12, 1804 - Martha Berry Administrator, page 93 BERRY, JOHN (Dcsd), Estate, Recorded Oct. 26, 1804 - William Cates Administrator, page 94 BERRY, JOHN (Dcsd), Estate, Recorded Sep. 2, 1811 - Benjamin Camp Administrator, page 160 ..................................... I am looking for information on who (i.e., what Mr. Green) Martha married, and on the various people to whom the children were bound: William Cates, Joshua Betts and Stephen Brooks. My own descent is through the youngest child, William, who later married Sarah Nelson and moved to Fayette Co. Alabama. I am also interested in the histories of the other 4 children: Joshua, Robert, Elizabeth and Mary - who they married, where they lived, etc. Notify Administrator about this message?
