Hello! I am trying to find out information on Simmons families in Jackson County in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I am researching a Sarah Simmons, born 1883. She married James Edward Akins/Aikens/Aiken in Jackson County in 1907, and died in Sept. 1919. There is not a death record on file for her at the courthouse; I went there today and checked, so I don't have her parents' names, and I am not sure how else to look for her and her family. She supposedly would be on the 1910 census, but I cannot locate the Aikens/Akins family in Jackson County (or apparently in Georgia!) in that census. Children of James and Sarah Simmons Aikens/Akins include: Mary Lou, born abt. 1908; Dillard, born 1910; Rufy/Rufus, born abt 1912; Henry Grady, born 1914; Emory Edward, born 1916, and possibly Woodroe/Woodrow, born abt. 1919. There was apparently another child born to Sarah and James; there was a newspaper notice in the Jackson Herald that stated that "Mrs. Dick Aiken passed away at her home...near the city limits (Jefferson)...her six months old baby was carried by the angels to join the mother in the spirit world. Its little body was interred beside that of the mother..." Both mother and child died in September of 1919, which would put the birth of that six-months baby in February/March of 1919. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Lisa Notify Administrator about this message?
