Our Thomas FLEMING came from Louth, Ireland sometime in the 1820's we have no date for this. We believe he came with a brother-name unknown- that he lost track of some time in New York. Thomas came to Illinois to work laying the rails for the train into Southern Illinois. He remained in the Sunfield/DuQuoin, Perry County, Illinois area where he married Eliza NEVILL. He was one of the first to live in this area is what his obit says. We know Thomas served in the army during the Civil War. Thomas had another relative in the United States that was why the boys came to America. We do not know this person name. A story was told that they came over on a ship that ran out of fresh water and they swam in the Ocean next to the ship to keep their bodies hydrated, I do not know how much of this story is true as it was handed down for many years! But if there is a person out there with a similar family story then there may be a connection and truth behind this story. Thomas searched for his family for many years and moved to Georgia for a while to search there for his family. Notify Administrator about this message?
