For his “Our Town” column in the Columbus Ledger newspaper dated 06 MAR 1968, W. C. WOODALL focused on Clapp’s Factory memories and mentioned: “Mrs. T. H. POYNER had a lot of information about the old cemetery, written out in detail. She loaned this record to ‘some man’ and it has never been returned. But she has many memories of her own as to Clapp’s Factory cemetery.” She was Florence Eldora LAVENDER (February 21, 1879 Taylor County, Georgia – May 9, 1977 Muscogee County, Georgia, buried in Girard Cemetery), who married in 1904 to Thomas Henry POYNER. Florence was evidently the daughter of William & Elizabeth LAVENDER who on the 1880 census were enumerated in Carsonville, Taylor Co, GA, p. 80D. I am interested in contacting descendants or researchers of this family, particularly with respect to the family connection to the Clapp’s Factory Cemetery. Note that Thomas A. POINER m. 26 FEB 1865 in Muscogee Co, GA, to Elizabeth McSWAIN (LDS IGI NA). In OCT 1901, John H. McSWAIN was shot and killed near his home on Front Street in Columbus. A man named Luther WHEELER was arrested for the crime. McSWAIN was buried at Clapp’s Factory on October 23 – not sure if or how he is kin to Elizabeth, or how Thomas A POINER may be kin to Florence’s husband, Thomas Henry. Any information appreciated – thanks! John in TX Notify Administrator about this message?
