How does he tie to Jesse and Evan?
Gerry: Thanks for your "Amerson" response. The Amersons that lived in Mauk were relatives of Evans Amerson, who had several children. One of his children was William Clarence Amerson, who had a son named John Henry Amerson, who had a daughter named Patricia Amerson who was born Feb. 11, 1951. This is the one that we visited with in Mauk several months ago. Also, this Evans Amerson was the brother of Jesse Amerson that we are searching for their parents. Evans named his first son, William Clarence Amerson, and Jesse named his first son William Clarence Amerson, and I am married to his son, William Clarence Amerson, Jr. This sorta leads me to believe that the William or the Clarence was a family named that was carried down the Amerson line. Of course, I could be wrong. I will do some more checking on the info you furnished and maybe I can come up with something. I, too, was a paralegal, but time came to retire and believe me I went for it. My lawyers liked the words "Legal Assistant" better than "Paralegal" when we sent out correspondence. I also have two attorneys in my family, one being my first cousin in Winder, Georgia and the other one is my g/daughter's husband, Seth Kirby, who is employed with Arnall, Golden & Gregory in Atlanta. You are old enough to remember our Georgia Governor, Ellis Arnall, who originally started the firm of Arnall, Golden & Gregory. My attorney cousin is John Elwin Stell, Jr., and he is a partner in the firm of Russell, Stell, Smith & McLocklin. I retired from the firm that represented many of the pharmaceutical companies that manufactured the breast implants. We had 255 active cases when I left the firm of just breast implant cases. I still do some free lance work filling in on vacations, etc. However, I'm calling in quits for good very shortly. Thanks for your info and I will be back in touch after I've had a chance to review your notes more carefully and see if I can tie something down. Let me know if your husband knew any of the people I mentioned that lived in Mauk. Who knows we all may be kin. Thanks for your info. Will be in touch later. Dorothy

Gerry: I don't think I have corresponded with you before, but I am desperately trying to locate the parents of my husband's grandfather, Jesse Amerson. Here is what I have found out so far. Jesse Amerson had a brother named Eivens (now Evans) and a sister named Nancy. They were shown in the 1870 census of Taylor County with the head of the household being Martha Amerson. I checked the marriages in Taylor County and found that a Martha Jones had married a Charles Amerson and later found out he was referred to as J. Charles Amerson. Our Jesse had a brother named Evans and I have been in contact with relatives in that family who live in a small Georgia community referred to as Mauk, Georgia. Martha Amerson subsequently filed a petition for twelve months support for herself and the minor children in the court of ordinary in Taylor County in 1865 (I believe that's the correct date as I am writing from memory). So far, we have been unable to obtain a copy of that petition as the clerk keeps telling us she has not been able to find it, even though it has been paid for. Our Jesse was born about 1872, give or take a few short years. He died on February 22, 1946. I feel like this Martha Amerson may have been Jesse's mother, but I have no proof. Evans, Nancy and Jesse later show up in different households as being orphans. Nancy shows up in the household of Jasper Bishop in Upson County, Georgia. This is where Jesse always said he was from (that is according to my husband). I have a copy of Jesse's marriage license and certificate of marriage and he spelled his name at that time as "Emmerson" which was news to the rest of the current Amerson family. Jesse married Effie Norris in 1891 and they had three children, William Clarence (my husband's deceased father), Claude Amerson and one daughter Mabel Amerson. If any of this sounds familiar to you, or if you can help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. My husband is 80 years old, I am 70 years old and I would love to leave our children something about the Amerson family. We have been married for 50 years and I am a retired Legal Assistant, having worked with attorneys for 30 years. This is one project that has me "stumped." Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Beatrice Amerson married Robert L. Cooper on 3/26/1904 in Taylor Co., GA. Robert Cooper had been married at least once before and had several children. Would like to know which of Robert's children were Beatrice's and the names of her parents and siblings
In 1880 census Taylor Co.:

Sarah A. (Gann) 53.
R. L. 17 : m. Annie F. Trussell 1891:issue:Ernest Eugene Cooper b 1902, d 1951, Columbus, GA. Hope this helps.
In 1900 census, R. L. Cooper was listed as 34 and widow. Wrong birthdate on Ernest Eugene, perhaps? No other marriage in Taylor County for R. L. Cooper between 1891 and 1904. Hope this helps.Emily O'Neal

In 1900 census, Taylor Co.,
Amerson, Andrew 42,
Mollie 39,
Edward J. 20,
Beatrice 18,
Mattie P. 15,
Grover C. 13,
Rosa B. 8,
Bessie R. 6,
Emma M. 3,

Mary 61, (mother) widow.
Looking for information on Mary Lou Cooper who married ? Allred. Mary Lou's parents were Robert L. Cooper and, possibly, Beatrice Amerson. The family was originally from Taylor Co., GA but probably moved to Muscogee Co. between 1910-1930.

I have a few other stray ones, but not the names you are looking for. Still maybe this will get you started!

Gerry Hill- in Albany Ga.
