Leigh, What I have is an old wooden plaque which measures about 4 x 6 inches. The name R. E. GABLER is inscribed on it. It is a carving. There is a shield with a helmet on top and then a man on top of that who is holding a staff of some sort. On the shield are 3 of the same "staffs". One straight up and down and two crossing it diagonal. This was handed down through our family. My great grandmother was Wilhelmina Gabler who married Adolph Paulsen in NYC in 1871. My Gablers came from Worms, Germany. The earliest one I have is Friedrich Erasmus Gabler who died on 27 Sept 1772. According to the Stadtarchiv in Worms he was from Frankfurt and was a Mayor of Worms at one time. I can't seem to find the rest of Wilhelmina's family, brothers and sisters. I guess they may have left NY at some point.
