(I found a wadded up newspaper from a packing box. It was a Midland Reporter Telegram newspaper dated October 9, 1987. I hope this information will help someone. Barbara) Graveside services for Ben J. Gay of Midland, Texas were to be 11 a.m. today in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Truman Friday officiating. Ellis Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Gay died at his home Wednesday evening following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois, where he spent his early life. During World War II he entered the Air Force and was stationed at Midland Air Base until it closed in 1946. While stationed here he met the former Mary Allen and they were married in 1943. In 1946 they moved to Chicago and then returned to Midland in 1948. At that time he became employed with Strawn Merchandise Co. and was with them until 1951 when he joined the Midland Police Force. He remained with the police department, patrolling the downtown area, until his retirement in 1980 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and past Post Commander of Woods W. Lynch #19 and a member of the Texas Police Association. Survivors include his wife, Mary Gay of Midland; one brother, Peter Gay, of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Adele Miskis, of Hickory Hills, Ill.; five nieces and four nephews. Pallbearers were to be C.T. Pryor, J.O. Partenan, Roy Wells, James E. Dunn, Earl Matney and Mace McPhearson. Honorary pallbearers were to be Dr. Jake Shapira, Harold Wallace, Roy Dahl, Wayne Gideon, R.C. Cauble, Dr. Gregory Bartha, Judge William Ahders and all the members of the Midland Police Department, present and retired. Notify Administrator about this message?
