Mark, I see that you have already posted to the Zellmer forum, and that is likely your best bet to find information. I had the same problem with my Prussian ancestors, but was fortunate to find a descendant that had made several trips to Germany to research the surname. He is able to read, write, and speak German, and had more luck finding records than most of us would. In my experience, not a lot of Prussian records survived the war, and those that did are pretty much scattered all over Germany. Additionally, I was able to locate a very distant "cousin" still living in Germany who told me that his family didn't have many photos and records that far back because they had a chance to get out with their lives and took only what they absolutely had to have to survive. But, his father had started with nothing except verbal history, and set about proving them, so he did have some documentation. I found him with a Google search of the surname and then wrote emails and letters until I got an answer. It appears to me that church records are the best source of information. You might see if you can find a church in the vacinity of where you believe your ancestors lived, and see if they can help you at all. After ten years of trying, I know the situation looks pretty bleak but just keep trying and one day, when you least expect it, you will find a connection. Good luck!
