Better get your Credit Card ready and sign up !
Ancestry has announced they are going for an IPO before long and all of the $$ they can fleece will help their bottom line! If you sign up, you also get a rubber stamp marked SHEEP for your forehead. BA BA BA etc.
As for me...I once was a subscriber. They promised data bases, stalled and couldn't deliver. I found data cheaper, from more reliable sources.
I had trouble canceling; they already had my Credit card and wanted to automatically renew the subscription but I persisted and they gave up.
They also encouraged researchers to spew their data (Gedcoms) onto the Ancestry.com sites, thus building their data base (which they turned into CD's and sold). Made them a fortune by selling unreliable information to the Newbies.
Do they still operate this way? Have no idea. I just consider them a "McGenie"...an expensive junk food site.
