There are also a lot of other actual record images on Ancestry, besides the census. I think a person has to look and see what records are on ancestry before subscrbing. They have better information and records for some places and not so much for others.

You mentioned HQ and their census. HQ does have all the census online - but only have indexed some years, and have no plans that I know of to index the rest of them. Also, as you said, they only indexed the HOH and not everyone in the household, but you can browse and go page by page on the census at HQ.
