David John Gurling 18?? South London

This is probably a repeat for some on this list but I need help here :)

Perusing this list I note most postings show people who are way ahead of my
level of expertise.

I decided being such an unusual name and a rarer spelling it would be fairly
straightforward to trace back at least a short way into my antecedents. So
far that has proved untrue since I can find no references to anyone I know.

My father was born at home in Victory Grove Camberwell (South London) in
1906 one of the younger of several sons and one daughter to David John
Gurling my grandfather. I have found no way (from the USA) to trace him or
his parents. Researches into the local around Camberwell come up with name
matches (Gurling, Gerling and Girling) but no way to link any of them.

I BTW was born in Lambeth Hospital near Elephant & Castle in 1944 and moved
to the USA in 1983.

Any help on how I fill in some gaps would be welcome. Familysearch.org has
nothing I can use (yet).
