Recently came across an article in the Lucas, Iowa book written by Betty Jane (Mitchell) Spoon about George Melvin and his wife Elizabeth Beales. Married at 15 and 14 years respectively on 5/25/1861 in Osceola, Iowa. The couple were found after an extensive research by Wanger Studios of California in a promotion of undying love for their movie "Eternally yOURS" IN 1939. Mr. Robert Ripley picked up the story and featured the couple in his Believe It or Not column. The couple had been married 77 years at the time. The couple were parted with the death of Elizabeth on 8/25/1942 after 80 years of married life. The book says it can be ordered by writing to Betty Spoon at 700 Vine Street, Lucas, Iowa 50151.
