The Matthew Goddard you refer to must be, I think, the one living at Alton Priors, Wilts in the 1891 Census. That shows him as being aged 61 and born at North Newnton which is about 1 mile from Hilcott. He was living with his wife Sarah aged 60, born in Beechingstoke.
His son, Job, aged 30, born in Bottlesford was living nearby at Alton Barnes with his wife Sophia aged 27, born in Alton Priors and their children Charles J. aged 4, Francis G. aged 3 and Edith E. aged 9 months. The two youngest children were born in Alton Barnes and Charles J. in Alton Priors.
Matthew's death, aged 82, was registered in the 3rd Qtr. of 1911 in Pewsey. Job died in the 1st Qtr of 1949 aged 88 and Sophia in the 2nd Qtr. of 1945 aged 81. Both of their deaths were registered in Chippenham.
I am sorry I do not have any data on John's birth in Upavon or of his his marriage to Elizabeth. Have you tried the Nimrod index?
