Maryville Times, (Blount Co. TN) Saturday, May 6, 1899:
"Obituary---Mary Emily Braden was born April 16, 1875 in Campbell Co., Tenn., and died April 2, 1899 at her home near Moweaqua [Shelby Co. IL]. She was sick only a few days and the suddenness of her death was an extremely sad message to her relatives and friends. The deceased has been a faithful and diligent member of the Missionary Baptist Church for 12 years. She was married to Maynard Goddard, Aug, 17, 1898 and moved to this place from their former home in Tennessee just one month before her death. She was a kind and affectionate wife and won the admiration and respect of all whom she met by her amiable disposition and Christian character. Her life was one of faithfulness and inexpressible purity, always considering her religious duty the most supreme of her life. She leaves a husband, three brothers, a father and a host of friends to mourn her untimely death." ---Moweaqua Republican.
