My second theory regarding the ancestry of Jordan Goddard is this: He might be the son of Andrew Goddard and Mary Goddard. My reasoning goes this way: 1. Jordan had a son named "Phillip Andrew Goddard". He would have been named for his maternal grandfather, Phillip Harner. But just as easily the "Andrew" in his name could have come from Andrew Goddard. 2. Andrew Goddard had two sons, Casper and Jasper. In the 1860 census Casper is 15 (born about 1845) and Jasper is 11 (born 1849 or 1850). We find a Jasper Goddard in the same county as Jordan Goddard in 1900 (Texas County, MO). Jasper reports his father born in Illinois, which would be a problem. Andrew Goddard was born in TN, GA, or the Carolinas. But the Jasper Goddard in the 1900 census of Texas County MO was born 1847, which is a fairly close age match to the Jasper Goddard reported in the 1860 census of Johnson County IL. Jordan Goddard was inconsistent in how he reported the birthplace of his parents. Sometimes he said TN, sometimes he said GA, sometimes he said NC. He never said Il.
