Hi Ian,

Thanks for your response and ideas... I appreciate that!
I was ultimately able to investigate this family group to a great degree, and indeed, they may end up connected to my aimless God(d)ards. Somewhere.
As to the spelling, I tend to keep an open mind about that, due to the all various reasons the spelling of a name can get altered. For this group and mine, the birth names are telling, and they lean towards an English ancestry.
I read a couple of your other posts and see you've done some sluething as to geographical clusters in the UK.

If I'm on the right track, my God(d)ards are going to end up as part of the Hartford, CT. line, and if so, I am hoping that will then lead me to their UK origins.
My line is most likely one of those who are documented in literature as, for example, (--- Goddard had nine sons) and then, no names provided! Anywhere online so far!
What I do know so far is from current residence to older...
OR>NE>IA>IN>OH>PA. Oldest known ancestors state being b. circa 1797-1805 in Pennsylvania, US.
It's at that point, I am trying to determine WHICH of the few Goddards in PA at that time, they belong to. I'm leaning towards the God(d)ards of West Burlington, Bradford , PA. There is an Allen Godard there, and perhaps one of his sons, or brothers, that I'm investigating now.
Thansk again!
Julie A.
