Hello,
I believe we have some ancestors in common...
Samuel Willis Gossard m. Hannah "Jennie" Starr in 1868 in Ames, Story Co, IA.
In the 1870 census they have a daughter Maude.
Jennie (Starr) Gossard died in 1874. In the Polk Co, IA census, Willis has two children: Vivian age 9, and Bennie Gay age 7. His wife is named Martha.
In the 1900 census, Willis and Martha are now residing in Nebraska. Martha says she had no children. Thus implying that Vivian and Benjamin Gay Gossard are the children of Jennie Starr Gossard. Gay is a common middle name among this generation of Starrs. Probably named for their uncle Weston Gay Starr.
Also in the 1900 Nebraska census is a Benjamin & Effie Starr with a son Floyd. Sounds like your family to me.
Jennie's parents are Ephraim Starr and Nancy Newland. They married in Indiana, then went to Wisconsin and finally settled down in Iowa.
