I have been tracking the Gowlands and went back to a Charles Gowland born in Northumberland in 1796. He was living with his wife in Newcastle and was a master plane make. His son Robert, grandson William and greatgrandson Percy were all born in Newcastle - the Westgate area. Percy then moved down to the South London area where all his children were born. I suspect that Charles had a number of brothers who might have been your ancestor. (Reason- Robert & William only had 1 son).
Doesn't this all take up a lot of time?! Martina
