Gozzard Family Genealogy Forum

Hello Linda. Sorry to be a long time replying but I have had one of those weeks. So, we are both descended from the same Brother - John Gozzard. However, even though you and I are the same age - I was born in 1945 - we are a generation apart on the family tree, as Annie Gozzard - your Grandmother Nellie's sister - is my Great Grandmother, not my Grandmother. Presumably if your Grandmother was the youngest of the thirteen children, Annie was one of the older ones if she was already married and living at Blossom Street when your Aunt Ada visited her as a child. Then if your Grannie didn't have children until she was older, that would explain the difference.
We are all fascinated with the story about the Blossom Street yard, and that my Great Grandfather Barraclough, Annie's husband, visited the Scarborough Taps opposite the train station - he was a Railway Porter and Lamp Man so that follows!
Anyway, I have taken all the names and information you have given me, and on some of the other postings you have made, and padded out my Gozzard tree. I intend to do as many branches as possible, on my husband's side as well as my own, and make them into 2 books to pass on to my children as heirlooms. Lots of work still to go however, as I haven't started on my Dad's family or my husband's. My Mam is 91 but unfortunately now has dementia, and your mother and grandmother lived to a good age also, so that might be a good thing for us. Not with dementia though! My Mam however has excellent recall on the past and was very interested when I read out your postings to her.
Incidentally, my cousin June who started all our searches off about ten years ago, doing it the hard way at the library and with micro fiches and Kelly's directories with our Landreth side of the family,(she doesn't have a computer) discovered a web site at Leeds Library www.leodis.com which has hundreds of photos of old Leeds. We have been able to find a picture of the Queen Hotel Leeds where one of our Great Grandfathers, not on the Gozzard side, was the licensee in 1881 and where my Grandmother was born. Try it and I think you will be sure to find things of interest. We have even found Blossom Street! I will keep in touch and let you know if I think of anything else you might be interested in.
