Ed...I had to laugh when I read your post. My dad was born in Sampson County but did not live there long. I was born and raised in Virginia. Once when I was a kid he took us to the Grady/Outlaw reunion at the B.F. Grady High School (named for my Dad's grandfather). My brother and I got a chuckle when everyone there pronounced the name with a short "a". Being the stupid kids we were, we couldn't believe that someone could mispronounce their own name. Thanks for the memory.
