Trying to find a father for Joseph Green of Buffalo Creek. Joseph was among the earliest residents west of the Catawba. There are many records of him in the area in the 1750s and early 1760s. There are also records for a William Green who is much too old to be Joseph's son. This could be a brother or his father...I am tryng to determine which. Page 426-427 Aug 3 1754 Rich'd Miller of Anson to Jonathan Willkee...land bought of James Bullock on south side of Creek below William Green's land... Joseph Green is listed among the married men in Samuel Coburn's militia, believed to be about 1753. William Green is not listed, which may suggest he is older. On Oct 28, 1756, when Burrill Griggs died, both Joseph and William Green were listed among those owing notes to Grigg's trading post at the Rocky Ford along the South Fork of the Catawba River. Joseph Green married Mary McIntire, who remarried James McAfee after Joseph died abt Sept 1771 on Buffalo Creek, NC. Mary's marriage to James McAfee occurred some time after Mary's brother James McEntire was appointed guardian of her children in July, 1772 and before the battle of Kings Mountain (1780) when William Green was described as McAfee's step son, and probably occured abt 1774. A William Green of Thicketty Creek (wife Agnes) also appears in the Anson and Mecklenburg records during this time period, but the relationship is unknown. Notify Administrator about this message?
